Today in class we went over the final. We took notes and revised our essay outlines. Homework is to revise your outline and read pages 225-298 by Monday

  • INTRO AND BODY PARAGRAPHS TRY TO HAVE GOOD CONCLUSION
  • NO CONTRACTIONS AND PERSONAL WORDS

  • INTRODUCTION

  • Start with "Attention getter"  QUOTE (can be from a PLN or a person or a book.)
  • Then explain what does it mean
  • Background information- one sentence on each text stating titles, exposing your reader to what you want to talk about. Compare the lead in quote to thesis and the texts you are going to use. Fast and easy but effective. 5-10 minutes on the intro max. (Should be around 10 sentances)

    • explore what’s similar in each of the texts
    • what does it mean
    • three main points one per body paragraph

  • Set-up first example Start from small scale to large scale to build your argument to persuade
  • Explanation: SHOW NOT TELL

    • Explain the point you want the reader to say
    • Connect to the point of the paragraph-

    • Connect to the thesis-motivator for change
  • Transition to next example end with a stronger quote and explanation.  Literature is also used to promote change in (Background)
